- Monday, February 3rd: Students will receive Word Wizard #13 List. The homework will be due and the quiz will be on Friday, February 7th. As a class, we will continue to read Rod Serling's screenplay, "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street." Students will continue to complete the graphic organizer analyzing how character's fears, suspicions, and paranoia drive the action of the screenplay.
- Tuesday, February 4th: We will finish reading the screenplay, "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street." Students will complete the accompanying graphic organizer and close reading questions. We will then discuss vocabulary for analyzing film in preparation for viewing the film version of "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street."
- Wednesday, February 5th: Students will use their knowledge of film vocabulary to identify techniques used by the director to create suspense in The Twilight Zone episode, "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street." Students will then use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the techniques used in the film and text versions. Finally, students will write a short compare and contrast essay analyzing the film and the screenplay using film and literary vocabulary.
- Thursday, February 6th: Periods 2 & 6 will complete a quiz on correcting run-on sentences. Periods 1, 5, & 7 will complete a quiz on maintaining consistent verb tense. (As I have told students in class, if they are unfamiliar with these concepts, they should make arrangements to stay after school with me for tutoring on Wednesday, February 5th.) After the quiz, students will continue to read Gifted Hands.
- Friday, February 7th: Students will submit Word Wizard 13 homework, we will review roots with a quick game, and then students will take the Word Wizard 13 Quiz.

It is hard to believe we are already half way through Term 3. We will be continuing with studying Word Wizard and reading Gifted Hands during Term 3. Our new unit focuses on identity, and we will start this week by thinking about the following question: How do our fears shape our identity?
