- Monday: School Closed for Labor Day
- On Tuesday, we will take our first trip to the media center with Ms. Schartiger! Make sure your parents have signed the yellow internet use form and returned them to your first period teacher.
- On Wednesday, we will perform a close reading of Ernest Hemingway's "A Day's Wait." Students will consider the following questions: Is there truth in fiction? Why did the boy and the father respond differently to the boy's temperature? Students will also read a science connection piece called "Temperature Scales" and will analyze how confusion about temperature scales affected the plot of the story.
- Thursday: School Closed for Rosh Hashanah
- On Friday, the first Word Wizard homework is due! We will then play a short review game with the roots. Following that, we will take our first Word Wizard quiz.

Do you love writing? Join Ms. Nichols and Mr. Taylor for Monocacy Middle School's first ever Creative Writing/Online Literary Magazine Club! Students will write, edit, and make publication decisions for the school's first literary magazine. Students will meet in Ms. Nichols' room from 3:15PM to 4:15PM on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month throughout the school year (beginning 9/17). A final schedule will be provided to those participating. To register, download this form (or get one at school from Mrs. BB or Ms. Nichols!) and return it to Mrs. Borman-Bozick with your registration fee by September 13th. Contact Ms. Nichols with questions.
This club is brought to you by Make Happen Frederick County's Operation Edge-Ucation. Contact Teresa Robertson to find out about more clubs being offered at Monocacy Middle School throughout the school year! Students received their first set of roots for Word Wizard on Monday. At home students should be studying these roots and completing the homework sheet for next Friday, September 6th. A great way for students to study at home is by using Quizlet.com. A study set has already been created for this week's words! Check it out here. Students can practice using the flashcards for the roots and even play games!
I hope everyone is ready for Back to School Week! Ms. Swann and I have been preparing our rooms and planning some great lessons for Seventh Grade Language Arts! Here are some of the exciting things you have to look forward to for next week:
I am looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great first week back at school! I feel that this year has been so crammed with meetings that I have barely had time to work on beautifying my classroom. I stayed late at school this evening and was able to organize most things in my room. Now it is just finishing up bulletin boards (I still have three lonely boards with nothing on them in the back of the room!), decorating, and preparing procedures and lessons for students for the first day. My classroom isn't completely ready in time for Back to School Night tomorrow, but that will just leave some elements of surprise when students return on the first day! I can't wait to meet some of my students and their parents tomorrow!
