For the week of September 30, 2013 students will be working in the media center and in the computer lab to research and write a 5-paragraph argumentative essay based on the following topic: Is it right or wrong for animals to be involved in sports and competition?
*Please note: There is no Word Wizard vocabulary assigned this week, but students should continue to work on reading and literature circle assignments at home.
- On Monday, Ms. Schartiger (MoMS' media specialist) will provide students with an introduction to research techniques and resources. Students will end the class by deciding their opinions of the topic and writing a thesis statements or arguments for their papers.
- On Tuesday, we will be working in the computer lab to conduct research. Students will be required to use three sources to support their thesis and compile notes from all three sources on a graphic organizer.
- On Wednesday and Thursday, students will plan and word process their essays in the computer lab. If students do not finish the essay in class on Thursday, they must complete it for homework to turn in on Friday.
- Also on Thursday, October 3rd, we will hold an abbreviated literature circle meeting to share role assignments and assign new role assignments and reading due October 10th.
- On Friday, students will be listening to a presentation in the media center by J.D. Hulce, who has spent many years providing adoptive services for greyhounds. Students will be required to formulate questions for Mr. Hulce that relate to our research paper topic: Is it right or wrong for animals to be involved in sports and competition?
